La Republica Dominicana was founded in 1492 by Christopher Columbus, calling the land La Espanola. It was then captured in the 1700s by the French.
Napolian's dictatership, of what he called Santo Domingo, was over ruled in 1808 when the rebels reclaimed it back for Spain.
La Republica Dominicana didn't get its independence until later, 1838, where it underwent many governmental changes and leaders.
